Surfing At Short Sands Beach

Surfing along the Oregon Coast is an incredibly thrilling experience, and one of our favorite places to surf is at Short Sands Beach, located within Oswald West State Park. A beautiful walk through our coastlines old growth forest leads you to this special cove filled with waves, waterfalls & dramatic landscapes. Short Sands provides new and experienced surfers with clean waves, which break on sandbars up and down the beach. This small cover with a south facing angle allows for maximum wind protection, and is one of the safest places to surf along the Oregon Coast. Surrounded by beautiful hikes, and tide pools to explore, Short Sands is a fantastic beach for the whole family. Visiting Oswald West State Park & surfing at Short Sands will without a doubt be a highlight to any coastal trip!

Dan Haag
Born and raised in the great white north of Minnesota, Dan Haag felt the pull of the north Oregon Coast in the early 90s. Finding that rain never needed to be shoveled, he married an Oregon girl and settled in Manzanita, where he works as director of the Manzanita Visitors Center. He is also a freelance writer whose work has appeared in a variety of state and national publications. He spends his free time wandering the area’s many trails, supporting the Oregon wine and beer industry, perusing coastal bookstores, and chasing his black Labrador, Lilo, along the beach.
