Manzanita Open Set To Tee Off

It’s springtime and that means it’s time for the 19th annual Manzanita Open which benefits the Eugene Schmuck Foundation. Be sure to mark your calendar for the May 13th, 14th and 15th. There are still tee times available for any of the three days, or you’re welcome to join one of the teams who need a fourth player! The Open is a nine-hole, four-person scramble and is always lots of fun. You’ll meet new people and enjoy old friends. Or just stop by for breakfast or lunch on Saturday or Sunday and be part of the fun. There are games, chipping and putting, and a silent auction, too! This long-time Manzanita event is our area’s biggest fund-raiser and benefits many groups and organizations in North Tillamook County. For Tee times contact the Manzanita Golf Course at 503-368-5744. We need volunteers during the event, too; if you’d like to help call Bob Joseph at 503-706-3408.

Born and raised in the great white north of Minnesota, Dan Haag felt the pull of the north Oregon Coast in the early 90s. Finding that rain never needed to be shoveled, he married an Oregon girl and settled in Manzanita, where he works as director of the Manzanita Visitors Center. He is also a freelance writer whose work has appeared in a variety of state and national publications. He spends his free time wandering the area’s many trails, supporting the Oregon wine and beer industry, perusing coastal bookstores, and chasing his black Labrador, Lilo, along the beach.
