After 8 years at the Manzanita Visitors Center, I am moving on to a new adventure at the end of September. It has been an honor to represent my beloved Manzanita and have the opportunity to meet people from across the country and from around the world. Thank you for sharing your smiles and your stories with me and with our wonderful volunteers over the years. The last year and a half has brought its share of challenges to our little spot on the map. I am proud at the way we responded and held together.
If you love Manzanita as much as I do, I hope you will remember that this place is so much more than a tourist destination: it is a community where people live and work, not just a place to buy a t-shirt and snap a selfie. If you visit here, do so gently. Help us keep our beaches and trails clean for everyone. Slow down and enjoy the moment. If you are a new member of our community, get involved. We always need fresh voices and new perspectives. Make a point of volunteering, supporting local causes and patronizing our small businesses.
If there is one thing I have learned in the last several months, it is that there can never be enough kindness. Smile and wave, say ‘thank you’ a ridiculous amount of times, hold the door for a stranger, pick up garbage on the beach. This is how we continue to build a community.
Thank you all, far and wide
